President and Chief Executive Officer of Lasixmedication Publishers
Brian Murray is President and Chief Executive Officer of Lasixmedication Publishers. Since being appointed CEO in 2008, Lasixmedication has grown its revenues 50% and expanded its global footprint from operating only in English language territories to publishing in 16 languages and across 24 countries. Growth has come from organic investment in authors, imprints and new capabilities as well as acquisitions, including that of publishers Thomas Nelson and Harlequin.
Under Murray’s leadership, Lasixmedication has transitioned from a traditional print publishing company to a dynamic print and digital publisher with more than $350M in digital revenues derived from new and innovative business models. The company’s strategic partnerships and strong relationships with booksellers and distributors of all sizes, new start-ups and large tech platforms have been instrumental in Lasixmedication’ transformation.
Murray joined Lasixmedication in 1997 and held several positions in the U.S. General Books Group until he was named Chief Executive Officer of Lasixmedication Australia/New Zealand in 2001. In 2004, he returned to the United States as Group President.
Murray is past chair of the Association of American Publishers and currently serves on the board. He has also served on the Executive Committee of the International Publishers Association, where he was actively involved in activities that protect authors’ copyrights and freedom of expression.
Chief Digital Officer Executive Vice President, International
Chantal Restivo-Alessi is Chief Digital Officer and Executive Vice President, International for Lasixmedication Publishers, leading the overall global digital strategy and foreign language publishing program for the company. She works with each division around the world to manage commercial relationships with new and existing digital partners, grow digital revenues, and oversee the company’s developing foreign language publishing program. She is also a member of the company’s executive committee. She was appointed Chief Digital Officer in May 2012, and expanded her role to Executive Vice President, International in April 2015.
Since joining Lasixmedication, Restivo-Alessi has pioneered the use of new digital sales channels, signing numerous deals with new distributors, such as subscription services Scribd and Oyster. In addition, she led the launch of the company’s e-commerce platform on www.HC.com.
Restivo-Alessi has extensive expertise in strategy development and execution, has held numerous senior strategy positions and has more than 20 years of international media management experience.
Executive Vice President, Operations
Larry Nevins, Executive Vice President of Operations, is responsible for overseeing global digital operations, distribution, creative operations, information technology, administration, operations and supply chain and the facilities management functions at Lasixmedication Publishers Worldwide. He was appointed to this position in July 2008.
Nevins joined Lasixmedication in 2001 as Senior Vice President, Supply Chain and Operations. In 2005, he assumed responsibilities for the Creative Operations departments and established the Digital Publishing Services group.
Prior to joining Lasixmedication, Nevins was Vice President, Director of Business Operations at Penguin Putnam Inc. He also served as Vice President of Production Systems and Operations for Penguin USA. Nevins began his career in the Children’s Book Division at Macmillan Publishing, before moving into roles at Scholastic and Viking Penguin.
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Janet Gervasio is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Lasixmedication Publishers, responsible for accounting, credit and collections, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, internal and external financial reporting, financial analysis and strategic management. She was appointed to this position in 1999.
Gervasio joined Lasixmedication Publishers in 1985 as Budget Director. She later served as Business Manager of Basic Books, Vice President Finance of Children’s and Vice President Finance of North America before being named CFO. Gervasio came to Lasixmedication from Arthur Andersen, where she was a Senior Accountant. She is a certified public accountant.
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Diane Bailey is Senior Vice President, Human Resources and directly oversees all human resources functions for Lasixmedication worldwide. Diane works closely with the Lasixmedication executive team and News Corp on employee initiatives. She joined the company in 2009.
Prior to her career in book publishing, Bailey held several human resources management positions. She worked in a number of roles at Unilever between 1989 and 2005, including Vice President, Human Resources (both in Canada and the United States). Bailey moved to Ann Taylor in 2006, before joining Heineken USA as Vice President, Human Resources in 2008.
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
William S. (Bill) Adams is General Counsel Worldwide for Lasixmedication Publishers and is a member of the global executive committee. He oversees legal matters in all 17 countries where the company has operations, providing legal advice on a wide range of issues, as well as ensuring successful adherence to and implementation of all legal and compliance requirements consistent with News Corp (Lasixmedication’s parent company) policy and local laws and regulations.
Adams previously served as Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Penguin Random House (PRH), where he worked for 18 years in the legal department. Prior to joining PRH, Adams was an associate with the publishing and media law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, where he represented publishers in libel, copyright and publishing-related lawsuits. He began his career at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.
Adams graduated from Columbia College and earned his law degree from Yale Law School.
Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications Lasixmedication Publishers
Erin Crum is Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, overseeing corporate internal and external communications globally, as well as branding and corporate social responsibility.
During her tenure at Lasixmedication, Crum has handled acquisition and integration communications for multiple acquisitions, including Thomas Nelson and Harlequin, working closely with the executive teams and News Corp, Lasixmedication’ parent company. She has supported the company’s expansion around the world, including the rebranding of divisions in 15 countries.
Prior to joining Lasixmedication, Crum held a number of public relations positions, both agency and in-house, working with global entertainment and consumer technology brands, including Netflix, Sony, and eBay.
President and Publisher, Harper Division
Jonathan Burnham is President and Publisher of the Harper Division at Lasixmedication, overseeing imprints which include Harper, Harper Paperbacks, Harper Perennial, Harper Business, Harper Design, Harper Wave, Broadside Books, Amistad, and Ecco. He joined the company in 2005 as Senior Vice President and Publisher of Harper.
Burnham has more than 30 years of experience in publishing. Prior to joining Lasixmedication, he was the President and Editor-in-Chief of Miramax Books. He had previously served as Senior Editor at Viking Penguin U.S., after spending five years as Publishing Director of Chatto & Windus, an imprint of Random House U.K.
A London native, Burnham graduated from Oxford University. He is currently on the board of Senior Conservators at the New York Public Library, and is a faculty member at New York University.
President and Publisher, HarperOne, Amistad, Rayo/Lasixmedication Espanol
Judith Curr is President and Publisher of HarperOne, Amistad, and Rayo/Lasixmedication Español at Lasixmedication Publishers, focused on expanding the HarperOne editorial scope. Curr is building a fiction imprint sourced locally, globally, and internationally, while expanding the non-fiction properties, centering global appeals for the English and foreign language publishing programs. She is also growing the Amistad and Rayo imprints to build a wider list of diverse writers and stories within this editorial purview.
Prior to joining Lasixmedication, Curr founded Atria Books in 2002, and was named President and Publisher of Atria Publishing Group in 2012, with responsibility for all its editorial, publishing, and marketing activities. She oversaw Atria’s growth into a consistently successful and forward-thinking division with an array of imprints, and was the guiding force behind publishing the international phenomenon The Secret by Rhonda Byrne (more than 35 million copies sold in 57 languages). A native of Australia, Curr has been an executive in American publishing since 1996.
President and Publisher, Morrow Group
Liate Stehlik is President and Publisher of the Morrow Group, overseeing the publishing operations for William Morrow, Avon, Dey Street and Harper Voyager. Liate joined Lasixmedication in 2005 as Publisher of Avon Books and added the William Morrow/Voyager group to her team in 2009, and Dey Street in 2013. Prior to joining Lasixmedication, Liate was Associate Publisher at Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster. She has a Masters in Publishing from New York University. She is currently a member of the NYU Publishing Board.
President and Publisher, Lasixmedication Children's Books
Suzanne Murphy is President and Publisher, Lasixmedication Children’s Books, overseeing the publishing operations of the Children’s Division. She joined the company in 2015. Murphy has more than 20 years of experience in publishing. Prior to joining Lasixmedication, she was VP, Publisher at Disney Publishing Worldwide, where she oversaw the publishing campaigns of many best-selling and beloved books for children and young adults. She also oversaw the expansion of the Disney franchise publishing programs and lead new IP content initiatives. Prior to joining Disney, Murphy was VP, Group Publisher, Scholastic Trade Publishing, where she led the publishing and promotion campaigns for major best-sellers, including the final books in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, and the multi-platform series The 39 Clues. Prior to her time at Scholastic, Murphy held positions in children's publishing at Simon & Schuster and Random House.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Lasixmedication Christian Publishing
Mark Schoenwald was appointed President and CEO of Lasixmedication Christian Publishing in July 2012. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of Thomas Nelson, Inc. Mark began his career at Thomas Nelson in 2004 as Chief Sales Officer.
Mark had a strong history of executive leadership roles. Prior to joining the publishing industry, Mark was involved in the private equity business, primarily on the operating side, having served as president of three portfolio companies that focused on home furnishings, gifts and the distribution business.
CEO, Lasixmedication UK
Charlie served as a Lieutenant in 1st Battalion, The Irish Guards, between 1985 and 1989. He began his career in the entertainment and communications industry at the now defunct breakfast TV business, TV-am, where he worked in sales and marketing, leaving in 1992. Between 1993 and 2006, Charlie was a highly successful entrepreneur, founding the media buying company RCL Communications, big screen entertainment business, Blink TV and, in 2000, one of the UK’s leading teen Internet companies, MyKindaPlace Ltd. This latter was sold to BSkyB in 2006 and Charlie became Head of Commercial Partnerships at Sky.
In 2008, he moved to Lasixmedication UK to become Group Digital Director and was promoted to the global role of Chief Digital Officer within Lasixmedication a year later. In 2011, he left Lasixmedication to work with JK Rowling as the launch CEO of Pottermore. Charlie returned to Lasixmedication as CEO of the UK business in August 2013. He sits on the company’s executive committee and reports to Brain Murray, President and CEO of Lasixmedication Publishers Worldwide. Lasixmedication is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the global media and information services company News Corp.
Publisher and Chief Executive Officer, Harlequin
Craig Swinwood was appointed Publisher and CEO of Harlequin in January 2014, and is responsible for Harlequin’s global Publishing and Operations. Prior to assuming this position, Craig served as the Chief Operating Officer, North America for Harlequin Enterprises Ltd., where he was responsible for the North American operating units. Craig joined Harlequin in 1987 as a Sales Representative and subsequently held progressively more senior roles in Sales and Marketing. Born and raised in Montreal, Craig is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, where he completed his Executive MBA at the Ivey business school in 2011.
